For thousands of years, nail polish (or varnish, as it is sometimes known) has been a widely used and popular beauty aid. In fact, most women either love it or hate it, and one can even find painting finger and toenails quite addictive. For this reason, if you are not careful you can end up spending a lot of money on nail polish, unless you decide to purchase one or more nail polish sets.

The logic behind nail polish sets are that you can purchase a group of colors that go together fairly well, operating on the logic that if you like one particular color you will probably also like various variations of its shade. Therefore, if you like rose red, you may want to buy yourself a set that includes rose pink, ruby red, and rust red, giving you several variations on a theme.

Other types of nail polish sets are French manicure sets. French manicure is a fairly fashionable way to paint the nails in a way that mimics their natural look. Therefore, in a French manicure set, you would find a bottle of flesh pink nail polish for the bottom and middle part of your nails and a white nail polish to paint around the very tips of the nails. As you would use both of these colors together, it is only logical – and probably more cost effective – to buy them together in a set.

Before buying nail polish sets for yourself, however, you should sit down and work out whether it is worth it for you. If you are buying a set with a specific purpose, such as the French manicure set mentioned above, you would want to use every part of it. On the other hand, if you are buying nail polish sets of various colors, you should see how many of them you actually like. Depending on the size of the set, you might well find that you would not wear some of the colors at all. Therefore, before buying the set, you should take a good look to see how many of the colors you would actually wear. If the answer is something like “two out of five,” you would probably be far better off purchasing the two on their own than buying the whole set.

Another thing to do is bring your calculator with you and work out how much you are paying per bottle in the set and how much it would cost to buy them separately.
Of course, you may not be buying nail polish sets for yourself at all, in which case you can only guess what the other person would really want and you would have your own set budget for this gift at any rate.

Nonetheless, like any other decision that you take, you should give it a lot of thought before choosing nail polish sets that you would like. If you end up with one that just doesn’t fit your personality, it will be a waste of money.
